Highly acclaimed and respected comic book writer for imprint VERTIGO for a long time, most infamous for his extreme and radical series PREACHER and other work on MARVEL’S PUNISHER, HELLBLAZER, JUDGE DREDD and more.
Very recently he has given us another well recieved and again violent, brutal and reliably darkly told tale known as THE BOYS. Having begun back in 2006, it still continues on, with a new series presently. Moving on further from the bold and controvertial themes of PREACHER, THE BOYS was even more grim and gritty, containing ambiguous anti-heroes and harder graphic violence. With a world where there are superhero type characters, but they are egotistical, violent and confused, had ENNIS gone too far? There had been intial problems before the series continued on.
With all of this violence and dark tones to the tales of PREACHER and then through THE BOYS had ENNIS painted himself into a bloody and bruised corner?
This is a comic writer and creator who continually likes to provoke and shock, tease and push his audience but just how long can he go on doing so? Volume ten arrives now, unfolding the past of Billy Butcher, leader of THE BOYS. Will it work again and can the series continue on much longer now?
Rumours that a film script has been polished up and could be shooting some time in future might hint at the end of the comic and begining of a film series after. After the wild ride that THE BOYS has been, at least we can probably be sure to expect more good quality provocative work from ENNIS once more, as that is his way and we know he can be trusted for such work.
